Witchcraft Correspondences: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Matching Intent with Symbolism
What Are Correspondences and Why They Matter in Witchcraft
- Define correspondences as the symbolic associations (herbs, crystals, colors, planets, etc.) used to align spellwork with a specific intention.
- Explain how correspondences act as a “spiritual shortcut” — they help focus energy and build a consistent magical language.
- Highlight the principle of “like attracts like” (sympathetic magic) and why beginners should start with a few core correspondences.
How to Build Your Personal Correspondence Reference System
- Suggest creating a physical or digital “grimoire” page dedicated to correspondences, organized by intention (e.g., love, protection, abundance).
- Recommend three essential sources: a trusted book (e.g., Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs), a mobile app, and your own intuitive associations.
- Advise beginners to test one correspondence at a time (e.g., using rosemary for protection) and journal the results to refine their personal system.

Working with Planetary and Elemental Correspondences

- List the seven classical planets and their core magical associations: Sun (success), Moon (psychic), Mercury (travel), Venus (love), Mars (courage), Jupiter (wealth), Saturn (protection).
- Provide a simple ritual example: charge a candle with a planetary oil (e.g., Sun oil for confidence) while speaking a short affirmation.
